Frito Lay Creates 8 Hilarious ‘Groundhog Day’ Ads For Lay’s Flavors

Written by AdChat DFW

Chris Bellinger, Chief Creative Officer at Pepsico Foods US, has hit it out of the park again with these hilarious spots featuring the flavors of Lay’s using the scenario from the 1993 comedy “Groundhog Day.”  Stephen Tobolowsky, the actor from the movie, is “stuck” repeatedly checking out at a grocery store, with a different flavor of Lay’s each time. The check out girl repeats the same line for a series of eight commercials, but as it progresses, the Tobolowsky’s character displays emotions ranging from humor to desperation.

Bellinger shared on LinkedIn today, ” One day, I’ll tell the full story about how Ryan Reynolds Maximum Effort, @Jimmy Kimmel’s @kimmelot, and our team crafted this together in record time. Spoiler alert: It involves a text message I got 2 weeks ago from the one and only George Dewey to do something fun for Groundhog Day, so we filmed on Friday, and going live today. This Groundhog Day, you’ll find yourself in a Lay’s flavor loop of 8 Lay’s spots!

“Lay’s took a swing on a random idea to dominate Groundhog Day and will be running all day on ABC tomorrow (1/3 of their total inventory!) on broadcast and streaming. A first of its kind media partnership between #Lays and Disney Advertising which should be fun to see play out all day tomorrow on GMA, 20/20, Shark Tank, Jimmy Kimmel LIVE, and more.”

Check these out and get ready to belly laugh!
