Texas Music Revolution follows KHYI-FM General Manager and festival founder Joshua Jones as he guides the production of the festival’s silver anniversary, capturing both the challenges and the spirit behind sustaining a grassroots music institution in a rapidly changing industry.

Over the years, the festival has grown into a beloved Texas tradition, taking over historic downtown McKinney with nearly 100 bands performing across two days.

At its core, the film is both a time capsule and a revival story—documenting the return of live music in the wake of a global pandemic while celebrating the deep Texas roots that helped shape it. Set at the crossroads of traditional country and Americana, the festival has long been a home for the “red dirt” sound—an influential strand of American country music shaped by artists carrying forward the legacy of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. For more than 25 years, KHYI-FM’s commitment to radio independence has helped elevate this unique corner of the genre, turning Texas Music Revolution into one of the largest independent music festivals in the United States.

In a time when major festivals have struggled or disappeared altogether, Joshua Jones and the KHYI team double down on their mission to keep the music and culture alive, and is a celebration of resilience, community, and the enduring power of independent music in Texas.

The TMR Movie will be streaming beginning June 5th, 2026
