Last week at the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF), AdChat DFW had the pleasure of interviewing Marc Turtletaub, director/producer best known for the movies Little Miss Sunshine (2006), Safety Not Guaranteed, (2012) and Loving (2016). His most recent movie, Puzzle, was shown at the opening night gala.
The film centers around the character of Agnes, (Kelly McDonald) a suburban, stay-at-home mother with grown children and a unappreciative husband. Wearied with the repetitive routine of her life, she mentally escapes into the challenges of a jigsaw puzzle she received as a gift, and completes it in a fraction of the time it would take anyone else. Twice.
The satisfaction gained from such a feat drives Agnes to go to New York to find more puzzles, where she spots an advertisement for a puzzle champion seeking a partner. The relationship that ensues with the champion, (Irrfan Khan) sheds an entirely new light on her life, how she has led it and how she will change it moving forward. Seeing herself through his eyes, she is drawn into a new world and her life irrevocably evolves.
