Fantasy Advertising Teaser video #2
Rob Pritts:Director
Chris Smith, Creative Group Head with The Richards Group, stars in the second of a string of Fantasy Advertising teaser videos directed by Rob Pritts with Lucky21. The videos will promote key creative players in the DFW advertising community who will be in high demand to be drafted as players in Fantasy Advertising, the creative theme for this year’s ADDY awards.
David Soames, Creative Director for Moroch and co-creator of Fantasy Advertising stated, “Chris Smith was an obvious choice for our second Fantasy Advertising teaser video. Not only has Chris judged the ADDYs, but he has also become one of the more well-known ad figures in Dallas – having won awards from most of the top shows in the industry, including the One Show, Effies, Clios, London International Awards, and Radio Mercury Awards. Chris is also one of the funnier guys you will meet and had us all in stitches on set, as he proudly humiliated himself in front of the entire Dallas advertising community.”
In his two decades in advertising, Smith has written for some of America’s best-known brands, including Motel 6, Zales, The Home Depot, 7-Eleven, Red Lobster and Amstel Light. His work has earned him accolades from The One Show, Communication Arts, and the Radio Mercury Awards. He has lectured at the University of North Texas, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M, and his alma mater, Penn State.
He has been quoted as saying, “Any time you can encounter advertising where you’re totally not expecting it—you’re expecting it on television, you’re expecting it on radio, on billboards, whatever, but when you bump into it in the middle of the sidewalk or when you bump into it in the airport lavatory or whatever, you just weren’t expecting it—that sticks with you. Most advertising is wallpaper, but if it’s something that really catches you off-guard and makes you smile, then it stays with you and you like that product better.”
Chris is also a comedian and 18-year veteran with Ad-Libs, Dallas’s longest-running improv comedy troupe. He’s a regular contributor to trivia magazine mental_floss, for whom he has coauthored three books.
It looks like Chris’s history of awards, his approach to advertising and ability to improvise quickly, makes him a huge contender as a draft pick for the upcoming 2016 ADDYs Fantasy Advertising.
