Reimagining the 2023 Marketer of the Year Awards: Q&A with Ivonne Kinser

Our Chapter is honored and excited to have Ivonne Kinser, Vice President of Marketing and Innovation for Avocados From Mexico, on the AMA DFW Board of Directors leading the charge for the 2023 Marketer of the Year Awards program. In this role, she’s bringing enormous energy, vision, and creativity to take our premier awards program to the next level.

We sat down with Ivonne to get some more insight into how she’s approaching this year’s awards and what’s in store heading into this can’t-miss event.

This year’s Marketer of the Year Awards program and Gala are being completely reimaged under your leadership. What new and exciting things can the community look forward to this year?

We’ve made some BIG changes this year that will highlight why AMA DFW continues to be the leading marketing organization in the Metroplex.

First, to allow us to celebrate the very best, we’ve narrowed the categories to Campaign of the Year, CMO of the Year, Marketing Mavericks, Advertising Agency of the Year, and Collegiate Excellence. The Marketing Mavericks Award is a completely new and prestigious accolade we’re introducing this year. This award will celebrate 10 true trailblazers in the DFW marketing industry who are pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo, and making waves in their respective fields.

Second, all of these winners will be honored at the biggest party of the year for marketers—our Marketer of the Year Awards Gala. This year’s event will take place on June 29th at a spectacular venue—the historic hallmark Arlington Hall in Dallas, featuring exquisite grounds and architectural charms that provide the perfect context for such a prestigious event. I hear there might even be an exclusive afterparty with a band and a surprise singer in the works too! 

The theme this year is “UNITY”. What inspired this theme and how will see that threat carried through the awards and gala event?

The marketing industry—and the global economy as a whole—has put us all through a lot these past few years. I wanted this year’s event to reflect the power of bringing the brightest minds and most caring hearts together to overcome these challenges and more. My vision for the concept of UNITY showcases the power of joining forces to create positive change in the world of marketing. I want everyone to walk away from this year’s Marketer of the Year Awards feeling they’re a part of something bigger—a community that comes together to inspire, experience, create, and connect. It’s incredible to think that DFW is one of the fastest-growing marketing hubs in the country!

I heard the host this year is quite a character. What can you tell us about Michael Pratt? 

If you’ve ever attended a Digital Fight Club event, you know that nobody can bring the energy to a room of marketers like that event’s president and founder, Michael Pratt. We’re excited to have him involved not only as our event’s esteemed emcee but to also have him bring his energy, experience, and creative genius to the organization of this event. If history is any indication with Michael, our Gala will be a night to remember!
