charlieuniformtango, Dallas’ award-winning commercial production and post-production studio, regularly invites its neighbors: junior and senior art students from Dallas Arts District neighbor Booker T. Washington (BTW) High School for the Performing and Visual Arts to creative direct the company’s centerpiece chalkboard with new artwork. The students oversee both the conceptualization and execution of the elaborate chalk murals which change multiple times a year.
This installation took a seasonal angle with large-scale monsters and creatures. Tango motion designer Gray Wilcox then created a digital overlay – projecting an ever- changing light and color pattern that interacts with the designs and brings the mural to life.
“This chalkboard wall is a focal point in our offices and we always look forward to seeing what these talented young artists are going to create, says Lola Lott, charlieuniformtango principal/CEO. “The students come up with the concept and manage every aspect of its creation. And the results are always a delight.”
“This project is such a great opportunity for our students to create artwork in a real-world environment,” said Krystal Read, BTW Visual Arts Instructor. “We’re so grateful for the encouragement and practical experience the project gives them. The fact that our kids have so much fun doing the work is a bonus!”
