To all the parents out there who tirelessly document every Little League game and school sporting event, this one’s for you.
If you know Stewart Cohen with Stewart Cohen Pictures, you know he’s never without a camera in hand. He’s been a constant presence at his daughters’ events, capturing their triumphs and challenges, whether they were swimming, playing field hockey, hitting the basketball court, or later, competing in collegiate sports—Lacrosse for his youngest and Rowing for his eldest.
This summer, Stewart hit the pinnacle of youth sports coverage when he was given the incredible opportunity to film his eldest daughter, Teal, as she and her teammates prepared to represent the USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris. It was a dream come true for him.
Just a few months earlier, in May, the team qualified at a regatta in Lucerne. As usual, Stewart was there, camera in tow, capturing every moment from the shore. Meanwhile, he was also live-streaming his youngest daughter’s final Lacrosse game back home, which had a dramatic twist as she was carted off in an ambulance—a story for another time. The game was in The NCAA championship tournament.
Back to rowing: when the US Rowing team was dissatisfied with their official press photos, Teal turned to her dad. With his usual dedication, Stewart rallied his crew and flew to Princeton, NJ, to redo all the press images. In return, he was given exclusive access to film the team’s last practices in the States before their journey to Europe. His team had a brief window to shoot using everything from still cameras to drones, creating the hype content that would energize the team leading up to the games.
So next time you’re on the sidelines of your five-year-old’s soccer game at 8 AM on a Saturday, remember this: dreams do come true. All the time, effort, and love you put into capturing those fleeting moments are paving the way for incredible experiences—just like Stewart’s.
