The Dallas Mavericks have appointed Gina Miller as chief communications officer of the organization, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Rick Welts, effective immediately. In this newly-created role, Miller will oversee corporate communications, basketball communications and broadcasting.
“Gina is an industry powerhouse, highly respected for her strategic leadership in North Texas and beyond,” said Welts. “We are incredibly fortunate to add her expertise to our executive team and chart the future together as our franchise grows into a premier sports and entertainment organization.”
Miller brings nearly 30 years of sports industry experience to the Mavericks, most recently serving as vice president of broadcasting, media and communications for FC Dallas, North Texas SC, the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and Toyota Stadium. During her tenure, she secured FC Dallas’ first paid local TV broadcast package, expanded the club’s over-the-air footprint by launching its first-ever broadcast affiliate network across Texas, and consulted on Dallas’ successful bid to serve as a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, which landed a tournament-high nine matches and the International Broadcast Center in North Texas.
“I grew up loving this franchise and, like so many kids in Dallas, had Mavericks posters on my wall,” said Miller. “Covering this team and co-hosting Mavericks Game Night for more than a decade gave me a front-row seat to some of the most electric moments in Dallas sports history. To come full circle and now serve this organization in a leadership role is incredibly meaningful. I’m excited to help shape the next chapter of the Mavericks’ story, one that connects deeply with our fans, our city, and the global basketball community.”
A third-generation Dallas native, Miller began her career as a college intern for the Houston Rockets for the 1994-95 season, earning a championship ring during the team’s second-straight NBA title run. She went on to cover some of the biggest moments in professional sports as a sportscaster in Guam, Knoxville, Los Angeles and Dallas, where she hosted Mavericks Game Night with Derek Harper, along with pre- and postgame shows for the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Texas Rangers. Miller also worked as a reporter and producer for the Dallas Cowboys from 1999-2003. Along the way, she has earned the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award, multiple Lone Star Emmy nominations, and recognition as WISE DFW’s Heart and Soul Woman of Inspiration and a PRNews Changemaker.
