Side Chops Covers 8,500 Miles in 4 Months for XPO Logistics | Creates Content for IPO Spin-Off
Side Chops Posted On September 1, 2021

Times Square, Monday August 2. XPO Logistics, a Fortune 500 company and innovation leader in freight transportation, went public with their spin-off business GXO, a pioneer in supply chain solutions globally. It was a huge announcement for Wall Street and an exciting day for Side Chops. Before the closing bell, the Dallas-based production company saw its content displayed not only on national business news, financial networks and the newly launched GXO website, but also on the massive American Eagle Outfitters screen in Times Square.

The ongoing relationship between XPO Logistics and Side Chops began in 2019, when the former tapped Side Chops for turnkey video production showcasing high-tech collaborative robotics and next generation automation at XPO locations across the U.S. The final content was used across the company’s social channels.

As XPO prepared for the spin-off of GXO, they once again called on Side Chops to capture footage of new technology at several U.S. locations. This time, however, the production also included on-camera interviews and photography of C-level executives, leaders and employees.

Along with the NYSE debut, Side Chops was instrumental in the collaborative redesign for both XPO and GXO websites. They worked seamlessly with the companies’ teams and ultimately provided seven videos in different languages, one for each of its international headquarters, and an additional thirty-five videos for the GXO website launch. Seventeen videos were completed for the XPO website rebrand and relaunch.

Side Chops Managing Partner and Senior Editor, Shelby Miller stated, “It’s not every day you get to help a Fortune 500 company launch an entirely new brand. We’re thrilled to have played a significant role in this highly publicized and anticipated spin-off. It was an exciting day seeing our footage pop up across a wide variety of media outlets while reading the incoming congratulations from the incredibly large team who worked to make it all happen.”

Beginning in March of this year the Side Chops production team began firing on all cylinders. At an aggressive pace, they completed 30 shoot days in 17 cities across the U.S., logging 8,500 miles in 4 months for XPO Logistics and GXO. Post-production continued at Side Chops’ Dallas studio through the August launch.

Even while prepping for the new company spin-off, XPO wanted to celebrate Military Appreciation Month and honor their more than 4500 veterans and active-duty military. So for the month of May, XPO selected fifteen veterans from around the country to drive military themed trucks. Each of the selected drivers had also achieved the distinction of driving one million to three million accident-free miles.

The Side Chops production crew spent ten days traveling around the country shooting motion, stills and drone footage in Nashville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Tulsa and Dallas/Fort Worth. Upon returning home, the team had a compressed timeline to complete the videos within just a few days. Editor Shelby Miller worked closely with the XPO Logistics team to find and hone the story to bring out the emotion and pride the company has in its veterans.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support and partnership forged with Side Chops,” says Mary Ellen Mondi, XPO Vice President of Marketing. “Their professionalism and flexibility provided amazing content for both businesses to leverage. They were critical partners on this journey.”

Side Chops Executive Producer, Gerald Jones added. “It’s been quite a wild ride, literally, with XPO and GXO. They’ve kept us on the road with a multitude of exciting and creative projects this year. It’s always great working with them and we can’t wait to see where they send us next.”

Side Chops Adds Editor/Graphics/Compositing Talent and Veteran Producer Experience
Side Chops Posted On August 19, 2021

Side Chops content studio announces the addition of editor/mograph/VFX artist Jean-Patrick Nova and Senior Post Producer Kim Estrada. The two joined the team this summer.

Jean Patrick Nova, known inside the shop as simply “Nova,” is a graduate of The University of Iowa and UT Arlington, where he respectively earned a BFA in Cinema and a MFA in Film. His ten years of experience includes stints at Chewy, Alpha Paw and the Art Institute of Dallas where he served as adjunct professor. Nova’s proficiency in production, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Resolve, allows a full gamut of shooting, editing, compositing, graphics and color grading. “Jean-Patrick is a great complement to our existing roster. His skillset is pretty impressive, but, more importantly, he brings a wealth of knowledge, a unique perspective and passable skateboarding skills to our team” says Executive Producer Gerald Jones.

“My journey to Side Chops involved honing my crafts as editor, director and motion graphics artist as I oscillated between the myriad industries of film, academia, fashion editorial and furry friends,” says Nova. “What excited me about this opportunity was joining a team that has helmed some impressive and creative projects but is still down to earth and emphasizes cultivating talent. I feel I can learn, grow, and really unleash my skill set at Side Chops.”

Dallas native Kim Estrada also joins the team as Senior Post Producer. Estrada began her post production career at Filmworkers Club before becoming Producer at Treehouse Editorial where she worked on numerous accounts including The Home Depot, H-E-B, Toyota and Frito-Lay. “Kim’s knowledge of the entire post production process is immeasurable,” Jones continues. “We’re already feeling the difference in having Kim on the team. She’s improving and streamlining post processes, jumping into line producing and, just as we suspected, clients love her.”

“Side Chops’ business model is quite different from the traditional post facility, which I appreciated, so I made the jump with both feet.” Estrada says. “I come from a traditional post-house environment, and here I have the opportunity to learn so much more about the creative process, production, really everything advertising now encompasses. The first month I was here, our team created internal content for King’s Hawaiian, finished over seventy broadcast pieces for KIA and supported a Fortune 500 company’s NYSE spinoff with content we shot, edited and finished. We were so busy, I didn’t even have time to implement my TikTok dance team building exercises. But they’re coming.”

Side Chops Partner and Senior Editor Shelby Miller adds, “We truly believe it’s our people who set us apart and I can’t be happier to have these two join the Side Chops team. They each bring unique experiences, ideas and skills, allowing Side Chops to continue to expand our business with clients who rely on turn-key solutions which include strategy, implementation and a stellar final product.”

Side Chops Partners with Jason Whitbeck for Concept to Creation Storytelling | Plus Launches New Website
Side Chops Posted On November 12, 2020

Dallas, TX – (November 12, 2020) – Side Chops today announced its plans to expand production capabilities by partnering with Jason Whitbeck, Director, DP, Principal of Yes Go Productions. The addition brings even more experience and commitment to helping their clients tell their story through creative video content. “We’re always looking for exceptional talent to collaborate with, so we’re thrilled to add Jason Whitbeck to our lineup,” says Side Chops partner Shelby Miller. “Jason brings his years of experience as a Director/DP on campaigns for brands like Samsung, NEC, Lexus, Bombardier, LPGA, The Ritz Carlton Reserve and The Home Depot, with a keen eye for detail and an infectious enthusiasm. He expands our capabilities while complementing in-house Director Joe Harris nicely. Plus, Jason and Joe have worked together over the years so we’re excited to have them collaborating on upcoming projects.”

The partnership also allows Yes Go Productions access to Side Chops’ producing and post production talent, allowing Jason to focus more on his passion: visual storytelling. “After fifteen plus years of running my business, it’s really great to have found a team I gel with and who can share some of the load. I’m looking forward not only to focusing more on my Directing career with Side Chops and producing great work together but also to the many adventures we’re sure to have along the way.”

“With Whitbeck’s addition and expanded capabilities we’ve been adding, it became clear it was time to revamp the way we told our own story through the company website,” continues Miller. Since opening six years ago, Side Chops has constantly been adding to its job scope and client list. “We’ve worked with a broad range of clients, utilizing a deep bench of talent which allows us to scale and customize the team for each project. From ideation to final file delivery, we can do it all or fill in as the vital missing piece for traditional advertising agencies, client direct or an in-house agency. The website needed an update to reflect the full range of our capabilities while putting our work front and center.”

Industry Vet Gerald Jones Joins Side Chops as Director of Business Development and Client Relations
Side Chops Posted On May 26, 2020

Shelby Miller, Senior Editor/CEO announced post production industry veteran Gerald Jones has joined Side Chops as Director of Business Development and Client Relations. “Gerald is a master at building relationships and connecting people. He has an uncanny ability to find solutions by making personal connections and that personal touch is what makes all the difference in our industry. As Executive Producer at Fast Cuts-Dallas, those skills shined consistently with clients like BMW, Nestlé, Direct Energy, Christus Health System and Paramount Amusement Parks. Plus, he’s done just about everything, so the guy has an endless number of great stories. I look forward to the energy and focus he brings,” said Shelby Miller.

“What excites me most about the production industry today is how it reinvents itself to fit new targeted audiences, platforms and workflows. We’ve seen exponential change just over the last few months. Since its inception, Side Chops has been actively working to change the way content is created and I can’t wait to continue to offer creative solutions for today’s advertisers within that framework. And, it’ll be fun to reconnect with friends in the industry who brought me to the dance in one way or another while making new friends along the way,” Jones added.

“I’ve spent the last twelve years in an ownership and operations role in a Texas winery. Winemaking may seem a world away from video content production, but both industries have allowed me to network and connect people. The production community and the Texas wine industry are both in their own way like a family that prides itself on being innovative. I thrive on collaboration in a creative environment and providing excellent customer service. I guess you could say it’s in my blood.”

A native Texan born & raised in Dallas, Jones is a TCU graduate with a B.S. in RTVF/Broadcast Management and a B.A. in Spanish/Latin American Studies. In 1996 Jones began developing his business relations and production knowledge as an Account Manager at Getty Communications in
Dallas – a global motion film licensing network with offices worldwide. In 2000 he joined forces with Fast Cuts Edits, Dallas – a premier creative post-production facility offering broadcast services for advertising agencies, television commercials and corporate films. He spent a decade there as Producer, then Executive Producer where he excelled in new business development and building trust with his clients through exceptional customer service.

Since his departure, Jones has been Co-owner of Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards, a Texas winery with locations in Pittsburg & Fredericksburg. He is credited with expanding wine production & distribution exponentially while elevating the Los Pinos brand as a leader in the Texas wine industry. He spent the past six years on the state legislative action board that focuses on protecting the interests of over 500 Texas wineries.

Ted’s Brain Science Taps Kickstand & Side Chops to Create Silly Advertising for Serious Relief
Side Chops Posted On January 21, 2020

The Richardson-based, neuroscientist-founded pain cream company, Ted’s Brain Science Products, debuts their new ad, created by Kickstand and Side Chops. Featuring “Doctor” Mallard (the quotation marks are court-ordered), a proponent of unconventional pain treatments, who strikes out with a series patients before having to leave in a rush. The ad then exhorts the viewer to “put some science on it.”

Kickstand and Side Chops had a blast on the production, which had two key moments of serendipity: stumbling on the insane, custom “good times” van that serves as the “doctor”’s office, and the last minute idea to give Kevin Howard, the actor, hair extensions to bring the character to life.

Bo Bartlett, Co-Founder at Kickstand stated, “There’s a lot of snake oil and outright dishonesty in the natural pain relief space. The one thing those products all have in common is they all take themselves very, very seriously. So we decided to do the opposite – silly advertising, serious relief.”

Side Chops director Joe Harris added, “It was a fun shoot and it was super easy to keep everyone light, silly and excited. Before we began shooting, I shared the script with not just the actors but the crew as well. It informed them so when we got going, everyone was feeling comfortable, and at home so that the genuine emotion could come out. I asked these brilliant people to try to come near what I had envisioned in my brain, and it turned out much better than that.”

About Kickstand:
Kickstand is a small Dallas agency that has accidentally specialized in healthcare and video games, but deliberately specializes in silliness.

Teague to Lead Dallas’ Creative Studio

Side Chops, a premiere creative Dallas production and post studio has announced the addition of Marcie Teague as Executive Producer. Teague is known for her extensive post production experience and most recently served as Executive Producer at Post Op.

“Marcie adds a vital piece of the puzzle. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the table and we’re excited to have her help charting the course for the studio,” said Side Chops Senior Editor, Shelby Miller. “Marcie’s natural enthusiasm and experience are the perfect combination to wrangle us creative types and ensure we over deliver every time.” Side Chops Director/Editor Joe Harris added, “We worked together at Reel FX and I know she’ll bring the same level of energy and integrity to her new role with us.”
