Plot Twist Creates ‘Our Texas, Our Future’ Spot for H-E-B’s Sustainability Commitment
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On May 22, 2023

As part of H-E-B’s ongoing “Our Texas, Our Future” sustainability commitment, H-E-B is proud to partner with Texas State Parks to conserve and protect miles of Texas public land, while also encouraging more Texans to enjoy our parks. With 76 state parks, Texas has a lot to offer, but Texans’ lack in experience and preconceived notion that Texas parks are not worth their time kept a lot of people from visiting – even if the parks are in their backyard.

For this spot, we wanted to show how H-E-B’s responsibility to take care of Texas extends beyond their own aisles – to the miles and miles of Texas land. We used a visual device to talk about H-E-B’s sustainability commitment in a way that only they could – match-cutting between an aisle in the store to similar looking vanishing points out in nature. For this campaign, we traveled to five Texas State Parks across the state – Caddo Lake, Inks Lake, Longhorn Caverns, Palo Duro Canyon, and Sea Rim – to capture the diversity of scenery and types of activities at Texas Parks. It resulted in a stunning spot celebrating the beauty of Texas. To top it all off, we worked with Austin-based band Shakey Graves to create a cover of the Texan classic “Miles and Miles of Texas”.

We partnered with production company Revival Film and director Luis Peña on the project. Recess Editorial handled the post-production, with Jason Payne as the editor.

Want to Smile? Plot Twist Creates Feel-good Holiday Spot for Coca-Cola SW Honoring Vets
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On November 30, 2022

Plot Twist Creativity has created another heartfelt video for Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages (CCSWB), this time it was to promote CCSWB’s sponsorship of the USO’s Holiday Exodus program.

Plot Twist’s Creative team, Gaby Corsalini, ACD/Writer and Payton Lambert, Junior Art Director told AdChat DFW, “Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages doesn’t just bottle Coca-Cola products. They also partner with organizations like the USO to serve those who serve us all. Coca-Cola Southwest sponsor’s the USO’s Holiday Exodus program, which welcomes home members of the armed forces. It made it easy to tell an emotional story. The spot highlights the journey of a bottle of Coke and the people that help it reach its destination: giving returning soldiers their first taste of home. We wanted it to be a feel-good spot, and the original music from Shindig in Los Angeles really made it happen. We teamed up with our long-time partner Director Chris Smith (Native TV and  Sugar Film Production) to shoot the spot at a bottling plant in San Antonio.

We loved working on this project and bringing attention to the work that CCSWB and the USO do for our armed forces.

Michelle Isbell, E.P. at Native TV added, “Teaming up with our friends at Plot Twist and the awesome team at Coca-cola Southwest Beverages is always great. This project, however, was extra important to us as the veteran community holds a very special place in our hearts. We were honored to work on it. The fact that it was also great work was an additional bonus.”

New Holiday H-E-B Spot from Plot Twist Creativity | Check It Out
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On November 28, 2022

It’s that time of year again for another H-E-B holiday spot created by the magical team over at Plot Twist Creativity.

Chris Smith from Plot Twist, stated, “The spot was the latest in a series of H-E-B Holiday spots showcasing great Holiday meats but also highlighting the great service from their in-store Partners. Customer service is one of the places they have a real edge on their competitors, especially around the craziness of the Holidays. The song is a re-recording of a duet by Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton called “You Make It Feel Like Christmas.” It was done by Shindig Music in Los Angeles. We looked at a few other songs, but kept coming back to that one because the energy and message were right on.

Check it out…

Plot Twist Creates Red Carpet Treatment Spot for Coca-Cola SW Beverages, Sponsor of Special Olympics Texas
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On July 26, 2022

At Plot Twist Creativity, we’ve created another promotional video for Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages  with the help of our creative team Wendy Mayes and Bo McCord. Here are the details.

Greg Artkop, Director of Brand Communications at Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, approached us with the story of their VIP tent during Special Olympics Texas. His team told us how they had set up this special VIP tent at a few different events and many of the athletes never visited because they didn’t think they were, in fact, the VIPs. So we created a spot that featured the athletes prominently and showed how Coca-Coca Southwest Beverages was literally and figuratively rolling out the red carpet for all the athletes at Special Olympics Texas. It was a nice bonus that a red carpet and Coca-Cola red are pretty similar.

We really love how this spot is all about the athletes that participate in the Special Olympics….it just happens to be brought to you by Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. They are an amazing local company doing so many wonderful things in their local communities. We’re grateful to be their partner and have the opportunity to bring this story to life.

Plot Twist Creativity Named AOR for Dallas Winds
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On April 6, 2022

Plot Twist Creativity has been named the agency of record for the Dallas Winds. This renowned, five-time Grammy-nominated concert band is one of the best of its kind in the world and one of Dallas’s premier arts organizations.

Although the official AOR status is new, the agency and the Winds have a long history together. In 2006, Chris Smith, Plot Twist CCO and co-founder, was referred to Kim Campbell, Dallas Winds founder and Artistic Director, by a mutual friend who was a board member at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Kim was looking for someone to write radio ads for the Winds, and Chris, being a lifelong trumpet player and veteran of various bands from 4th grade through college, was the perfect fit. He would write (and voice) the Winds’ ads at The Richards Group for the next 15 years.

After the founding of Plot Twist, Kim decided to make the relationship official, and named Plot Twist the Winds’ official agency of record. He stated, “We’re so jazzed to be working with Plot Twist Creativity to promote The Dallas Winds. They’re a joyful bunch to work with, understand our story, and cut to the chase with brilliant solutions.”

On an additional note, last year Plot Twist came in as a finalist for the Radio Mercury Awards. They produced spots to solicit donations when Dallas Winds couldn’t perform during the pandemic.

Plot Twist Creativity Taps Texas Icon, George Strait, for H-E-B’s “Mission Critical” Super Bowl Spot
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On February 14, 2022

Plot Twist Creativity is proud to announce the debut of “Mission Critical,” our first official Super Bowl spot for our client H-E-B. Although this is the first H-E-B big game commercial we fully produced as an independent agency, it is our team’s 15th consecutive big game commercial for H-E-B. The goal (besides being entertaining) is to reinforce the love Texans have for H-E-B – that no matter where they go, how far, or for how long, Texans just can’t go without the H-E-B tastes they crave. Because at H-E-B, here everything’s better.

To make the :60 spot Super Bowl-worthy, the agency recruited another Texas icon, George Strait. Through epic production and some digital magic, the spot shows that even the King of Country can’t leave home without his favorite tastes from H-E-B.

Chris Smith, Principal and CCO at Plot Twist Creativity stated, “The client brief was wide open but also kinda scary: Do something that links H-E-B to Texas and gets people talking. The fact that lots of Texans put H-E-B at the top of the list of things they miss when they leave the state, even for a short time, we decided to run with that idea. So we had fun with the recent trend of celebrity space travel, a lot of it based in Texas, and were lucky enough to get Texas music icon George Strait to be our lucky traveler. Then we assembled the perfect slate of production partners to pull it off. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.”

Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Debuts First-Ever Hiring Ad for Super Bowl | Plot Twist Creativity Developed
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On February 9, 2022

Local Coca-Cola Bottler Launches Inspiring, “Happy” Hiring Campaign Spot to air in Texas and Oklahoma.

Dallas-based Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages (CCSWB), a company of Arca Continental and one of the largest Coca-Cola bottlers in the U.S., wants people to know it is a great place to start a career.  The local bottler of Coca-Cola products is launching its first-ever ad in Texas and Oklahoma on Sunday, Feb. 13, during America’s most-watched football game. The spot aims to promote hiring opportunities with a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s people and its culture.

The 30-second spot gives a glimpse into CCSWB and the people who produce Coca-Cola brand favorites for Texas and parts of the surrounding states. Featuring the popular tune “Happy” played on Coca-Cola bottles, the upbeat commercial includes nearly two dozen employees, both new and experienced, from Houston, Beaumont and Bryan.  It was shot last month in Houston at the company’s new state-of-the-art production, sales and distribution facility.

“CCSWB is a great place to work for experienced applicants and those starting a career,” said Silvia Martins, VP of Human Resources, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. “We have jobs to fill and we’re ready to recruit more people to join the incredible team we have built.”

The ad launches an ongoing hiring campaign in Texas and Oklahoma that includes billboard, radio and social media support to drive applicants to www.opportunityfizzes.com. Celebrating its fifth-year anniversary in 2022, CCSWB offers a wide range of full-and part-time jobs with competitive pay and great benefits.

The CCSWB ad was developed by Plot Twist Creativity, an independent advertising and marketing agency   founded in 2021 by long-time industry veterans with decades of experience.

AdChat DFW caught up with Greg Artkop, Director of Communications, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, and Dave Kroencke, Principal at Plot Twist Creativity, to chat about a few details on the spot.

AdChat DFW: Why did you choose the Super Bowl to create an ad specifically to encourage hiring?

Greg: Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, the local bottler of Coca-Cola products, is a great place to start a career.  We have 8000+ employees in Texas and parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas, and we need more.  We have jobs to fill and we want to reach the most people possible.

AdChat DFW: How did you collaborate with Plot Twist and create the concept of the spot?

Greg: We moved very quickly, from concepts to commercial in less than 6 weeks.  Plot Twist made it easy given their past experience and understanding of what it takes to break through during The Big Game.  The Plot Twist team provided some initial concepts that were unique to our company and our associates.  Once we settled on the final creative, we collaborated on different ideas, such as bringing in the wrapped Now Hiring truck, and got to work filming.  By the way, those wrapped trucks are on the road throughout our territory right now!

AdChat DFW: Did the employees have fun “acting” for a Super Bowl spot and did that impact the company culture positively?

Greg: Coca-Cola Southwest Beverage employees are some of the best people you will ever meet.  We didn’t “cast” any of the roles, we invited people to participate.  As you can tell, they had a tremendous amount of fun bringing our culture to life for the spot.  We are thrilled with the final commercial, and our employees are too.

AdChatDFW: Plot Twist, how did you come up with the idea for the ad?

Plot Twist’s Dave Kroencke: Our goal was to create a Super Bowl ad that happened to recruit people, not just a recruitment ad that happened to run on the Super Bowl. The germ of the idea was a music track played on bottles. We needed something that would have a recognizable tune but also sent the right message (without the benefit of lyrics!). The Pharrell Williams song “Happy” was the perfect fit, and Storefront Music made a wonderful bottle-choir version. Then our production partners at Sugar Films worked a couple miracles to make the massive bottling facility feel personal and let the vibrant personalities of the employees shine.
