Plot Twist Creativity Named AOR for Dallas Winds
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On April 6, 2022

Plot Twist Creativity has been named the agency of record for the Dallas Winds. This renowned, five-time Grammy-nominated concert band is one of the best of its kind in the world and one of Dallas’s premier arts organizations.

Although the official AOR status is new, the agency and the Winds have a long history together. In 2006, Chris Smith, Plot Twist CCO and co-founder, was referred to Kim Campbell, Dallas Winds founder and Artistic Director, by a mutual friend who was a board member at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Kim was looking for someone to write radio ads for the Winds, and Chris, being a lifelong trumpet player and veteran of various bands from 4th grade through college, was the perfect fit. He would write (and voice) the Winds’ ads at The Richards Group for the next 15 years.

After the founding of Plot Twist, Kim decided to make the relationship official, and named Plot Twist the Winds’ official agency of record. He stated, “We’re so jazzed to be working with Plot Twist Creativity to promote The Dallas Winds. They’re a joyful bunch to work with, understand our story, and cut to the chase with brilliant solutions.”

On an additional note, last year Plot Twist came in as a finalist for the Radio Mercury Awards. They produced spots to solicit donations when Dallas Winds couldn’t perform during the pandemic.

Plot Twist Creativity Taps Texas Icon, George Strait, for H-E-B’s “Mission Critical” Super Bowl Spot
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On February 14, 2022

Plot Twist Creativity is proud to announce the debut of “Mission Critical,” our first official Super Bowl spot for our client H-E-B. Although this is the first H-E-B big game commercial we fully produced as an independent agency, it is our team’s 15th consecutive big game commercial for H-E-B. The goal (besides being entertaining) is to reinforce the love Texans have for H-E-B – that no matter where they go, how far, or for how long, Texans just can’t go without the H-E-B tastes they crave. Because at H-E-B, here everything’s better.

To make the :60 spot Super Bowl-worthy, the agency recruited another Texas icon, George Strait. Through epic production and some digital magic, the spot shows that even the King of Country can’t leave home without his favorite tastes from H-E-B.

Chris Smith, Principal and CCO at Plot Twist Creativity stated, “The client brief was wide open but also kinda scary: Do something that links H-E-B to Texas and gets people talking. The fact that lots of Texans put H-E-B at the top of the list of things they miss when they leave the state, even for a short time, we decided to run with that idea. So we had fun with the recent trend of celebrity space travel, a lot of it based in Texas, and were lucky enough to get Texas music icon George Strait to be our lucky traveler. Then we assembled the perfect slate of production partners to pull it off. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.”

Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Debuts First-Ever Hiring Ad for Super Bowl | Plot Twist Creativity Developed
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On February 9, 2022

Local Coca-Cola Bottler Launches Inspiring, “Happy” Hiring Campaign Spot to air in Texas and Oklahoma.

Dallas-based Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages (CCSWB), a company of Arca Continental and one of the largest Coca-Cola bottlers in the U.S., wants people to know it is a great place to start a career.  The local bottler of Coca-Cola products is launching its first-ever ad in Texas and Oklahoma on Sunday, Feb. 13, during America’s most-watched football game. The spot aims to promote hiring opportunities with a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s people and its culture.

The 30-second spot gives a glimpse into CCSWB and the people who produce Coca-Cola brand favorites for Texas and parts of the surrounding states. Featuring the popular tune “Happy” played on Coca-Cola bottles, the upbeat commercial includes nearly two dozen employees, both new and experienced, from Houston, Beaumont and Bryan.  It was shot last month in Houston at the company’s new state-of-the-art production, sales and distribution facility.

“CCSWB is a great place to work for experienced applicants and those starting a career,” said Silvia Martins, VP of Human Resources, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. “We have jobs to fill and we’re ready to recruit more people to join the incredible team we have built.”

The ad launches an ongoing hiring campaign in Texas and Oklahoma that includes billboard, radio and social media support to drive applicants to www.opportunityfizzes.com. Celebrating its fifth-year anniversary in 2022, CCSWB offers a wide range of full-and part-time jobs with competitive pay and great benefits.

The CCSWB ad was developed by Plot Twist Creativity, an independent advertising and marketing agency   founded in 2021 by long-time industry veterans with decades of experience.

AdChat DFW caught up with Greg Artkop, Director of Communications, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, and Dave Kroencke, Principal at Plot Twist Creativity, to chat about a few details on the spot.

AdChat DFW: Why did you choose the Super Bowl to create an ad specifically to encourage hiring?

Greg: Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, the local bottler of Coca-Cola products, is a great place to start a career.  We have 8000+ employees in Texas and parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas, and we need more.  We have jobs to fill and we want to reach the most people possible.

AdChat DFW: How did you collaborate with Plot Twist and create the concept of the spot?

Greg: We moved very quickly, from concepts to commercial in less than 6 weeks.  Plot Twist made it easy given their past experience and understanding of what it takes to break through during The Big Game.  The Plot Twist team provided some initial concepts that were unique to our company and our associates.  Once we settled on the final creative, we collaborated on different ideas, such as bringing in the wrapped Now Hiring truck, and got to work filming.  By the way, those wrapped trucks are on the road throughout our territory right now!

AdChat DFW: Did the employees have fun “acting” for a Super Bowl spot and did that impact the company culture positively?

Greg: Coca-Cola Southwest Beverage employees are some of the best people you will ever meet.  We didn’t “cast” any of the roles, we invited people to participate.  As you can tell, they had a tremendous amount of fun bringing our culture to life for the spot.  We are thrilled with the final commercial, and our employees are too.

AdChatDFW: Plot Twist, how did you come up with the idea for the ad?

Plot Twist’s Dave Kroencke: Our goal was to create a Super Bowl ad that happened to recruit people, not just a recruitment ad that happened to run on the Super Bowl. The germ of the idea was a music track played on bottles. We needed something that would have a recognizable tune but also sent the right message (without the benefit of lyrics!). The Pharrell Williams song “Happy” was the perfect fit, and Storefront Music made a wonderful bottle-choir version. Then our production partners at Sugar Films worked a couple miracles to make the massive bottling facility feel personal and let the vibrant personalities of the employees shine.

Plot Twist and Trace Element Produces the “Most Tastiest” Creative for Central Market Holiday Campaign
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On December 9, 2021

Plot Twist Creativity doubles down on so many mouth-watering superlatives for Central Market’s holiday campaign that it makes you want hurry to shop there because they have the best of the best for the holidays.

AdChat DFW’s Patty Harrison chatted with Dave Kroencke, Principal at Plot Twist Creativity and Jeff Barfoot, Partner and Chief Creative Director, with Trace Element, about this year’s holiday campaign.

Patty: Tell us about this campaign.

Dave: In essence, for many retailers and grocery stores, the holidays are a huge time of the year. Business is strong and people are shopping for big family gatherings, parties and that kind of thing.

Patty: They’re dropping the bucks.

Dave: Definitely. Central Market truly enjoys this time of year because it’s a wonderful and special place. Which then puts pressure on us to make sure the creative campaign is just as special and that it reflects the store experience.

Patty: What did you do differently for this year?

Dave: This year we leaned into the idea that while it’s a wonderful time of year for society in general, it’s really the best time of year at Central Market, because during this season they have the largest variety of foods for every type of palate and taste. We took that strategic insight and then turned it into an amusing campaign idea using all kinds of superlatives; it’s the cheesiest, the meatiest…I can’t even say all of them…we just added the “est” to a lot of fun “taste” words to represent their products and flavors and then matched them to beautiful imagery. It’s just charming and clever.

Radio

Patty: Was the creative team the same one for the Thanksgiving campaign for Central Market?

Dave: Yes, it’s the same writing team, Chris Smith, Wendy Mayes and Rachel Dawer along with the design team at Trace Element including Jeff Barfoot. (See details below) I want to give all the credit to the team, they did a wonderful job.

Patty: There are many delectable visuals created by Trace Element.

Dave: They really stepped up to the plate, so to speak, to bring the tasty visuals to life.

Patty: Jeff, how did address the need for a yummy design?

Jeff: The Central Market Holiday event is always one of my favorites. The challenge for us is to strike just the right balance between something fresh and new, and something with some nostalgic charm. This year’s creative does that really well. The designer/illustrator team came up with a look that used scale and whimsy to create a fun campaign. I love the little Easter eggs (Holiday eggs??) peppered in it for people who take an extra moment, like a cow wearing a scarf or a little dude with a flamethrower roasting the giant ham!

Patty: And who was on this luscious design team?

Jeff: Our team was Anna Mertz, Dana Nixon, Cristina Moore, and Yvette Sierra (Cristina and Yvette were also the fabulous illustrators).

Patty: We love this campaign and are always looking for the next iteration which always succeeds at bringing a new twist.

Plot Twist Creativity Creates Fun H-E-B Holiday Spots | CUT Edits
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On December 1, 2021

This year for H-E-B’s holiday campaign we at Plot Twist Creativity, wanted to commemorate once again being able to celebrate together.  During the holiday season, the table becomes so much more than the place we eat. It’s the place we gather, play, joke, tell stories, bake, wrap presents, build gingerbread houses, and most importantly, build memories. For two of these spots, we showed how different Texans gather around the table, using a left to right panning motion to link each scene together.

Our creative team Rachel Dawer and Sonia Amin, thought up a fun visual montage of classic holiday scenarios edited to the 1970’s Captain and Tennille tune, “Love Will Keep Us Together.” Rachel stated, “We wanted a song that was both upbeat that had some nostalgia to it, since the holidays are a time to celebrate family traditions and memories. It was also important that the song choice promote a message of togetherness, especially after last year’s gatherings being smaller.”

We wanted to keep that same energy and ease when it came to our work for H-E-B’s curbside & delivery offering. This commercial shows how with H-E-B’s convenient shopping options, families can spend less time on their holiday to-do list and more time on their want-to-do list.

For this campaign, we partnered with production company, Bunker, and director Anton Jøsef. charlieuniformtango handled the post production, with Adam Henderson as the editor.

Henderson added, “Working on these spots with Plot Twist was such a fun experience. I was able to spend 4 full days around Austin with the team, which was less like work and more of a bonding experience.”

Watch spots…

Plot Twist Creativity Launches “Wonder Awaits You” Integrated Campaign for The Witte Museum
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On October 11, 2021

At Plot Twist Creativity, we recently completed a campaign for The Witte Museum in San Antonio.  One can say that this museum is an institution in every sense of the word as Texans from throughout the state have fond memories of school field trips and family outings spent there. But, like so many venerable museums, the Witte has to contend with a “been there, done that” attitude among its core audience of San Antonio families, despite a recent multi-million-dollar expansion and renovation.

The opportunity came to us through Cory Basso, a former client at H-E-B, with whom we worked together with for over 17 years. We jumped at the chance to work with him on the campaign.

When, the museum asked us to re-invigorate their image and brand and to give new meaning to “The Wonders of the Witte,” our team created the “Wonder Awaits You” campaign on a pro-bono basis, which gave a fresh new attitude to the museum. The clients’ reaction: “Finally, somebody gets us!” The subsequent campaign, which began as audio and is currently rolling out as TV and social, has increased post-COVID traffic by 154%.

Plot Twist Creativity Creates Fun H-E-B/Favor Campaign | charlieuniformtango Edits
Plot Twist Creativity Posted On August 5, 2021

In order to differentiate itself from an ever-lengthening list of delivery competitors, Favor chose to leverage its link with H-E-B to play up the unique consumer benefits that only Favor offers, like free one-hour on H-E-B beer and wine, Blooms Flowers, and H-E-B-owned restaurants.

So Plot Twist Creativity developed a campaign to tell people about these perks, as directly as possible, but of course… with a twist. We partnered with Slash Dynamic and director, Kiran Koshy, as well as charlieuniformtango for editorial, to bring these spots and more importantly, characters, hilariously to life.
