Caroline Clayton has been promoted to senior vice president of communications and chief marketing officer of American Airlines, ahead of the brand’s centennial. The brand turns 100 next year and Clayton is tasked with leading the global engagement team through celebration.

In her new role, Clayton will continue to lead American’s global marketing strategy and customer and commercial storytelling efforts. She will also continue to oversee American’s corporate communications. Additionally, she will continue to lead the digital experience for employees and the airline’s social media approach.

She will continue to report to Ron DeFeo, chief communications officer, as a member of the global engagement team. She will also serve as a key member of the commercial team, supporting all revenue-driving initiatives.

Clayton joined American Airlines as director of communications in 2014 and was promoted to managing director in June 2016. She most recently served as vice president of communications and marketing.

Clayton’s promotion comes as the brand is expanding its marketing team. The company  recently hired Jacs Wyatt as managing director of global marketing and Jen Crichton as managing director of communications.
