DIFF SHORTS Film Festival Announces Lineup for Inaugural Edition Festival

Set for August 23 through 25 at Angelika Film Center & Café in Mockingbird Station

DIFF SHORTS Film Festival has announced the lineup for the inaugural DIFF event to be held August 23 through 25 at Angelika Film Center & Café located in Mockingbird Station. With a goal of elevating short films and celebrating shorts filmmakers, the first-ever DIFF SHORTS Film Festival 2024 will feature 14 themed film blocks with more than 100 films, Q&As, industry panels, daily red carpets, and receptions for filmmakers and sponsors.

“Our goal with this inaugural festival is to champion the art of short films, and we have some gems in our lineup of more than 100 shorts,” said James Faust, DIFF Artistic Director. “There’s a lot for lovers of shorts to get excited about, and we’re happy to add this festival to the Dallas film scene. As many wonder if we will continue going to theaters to see movies, we’re committed to giving meaning to the theater experience as it brings people together to explore art, in this case, short films, which often doesn’t have a public platform.”

Awards at the DIFF SHORTS Film Festival 2024 will be given for Best Short Film, Best Texas Film, Best Music Video, Best Student Film, Best Documentary Film, and Best First-Time Filmmaker.

The 14 Shorts Blocks include: Animated Shorts, Sports Shorts, High School Shorts, Latino Shorts, Music Videos, Documentary Shorts, Narrative Shorts 1: Trapped, Narrative Shorts 2: Futurism, Narrative Shorts 3: Grief, Narrative Shorts 4: Mental Health, Narrative Shorts 5: Coming of Age; Narrative Shorts 6: Relationships; Late Night Shorts 1; and Late Night Shorts 2.

“Short films are the perfect canvas for bold storytelling, offering unique opportunities for filmmakers to explore fresh perspectives and experiment with form,” added Amber Ekleberry, Director of Programming and Senior Programmer. “We’ve carefully curated a program showcasing the incredible talent behind these cinematic gems, ensuring a diverse and exciting lineup for audiences of all tastes.”
