Movie Viewing Challenge Benefits DFS Educational Programs and DIFF
The Dallas Film Society recently announced that it will team with Studio Movie Grill for its first-ever Summer Movie Madness Marathon challenging film fans to watch four highly anticipated summer films on Sunday, July 16, to benefit DFS’s educational programs, the Dallas International Film Festival, and year-round special screening series.
Presented by Studio Movie Grill at their Spring Valley location (13933 N. Central Expressway), the movie marathon will invite film fans to watch an anticipated lineup including; Edgar Wright’s BABY DRIVER, Matt Reeves’s WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, Jon Watts’s SPIDER MAN – HOMECOMING, and Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda’s DESPICABLE ME 3 consecutively on Sunday, July 16. However, depending on scheduling, those films are subject to change.
Wright’s BABY DRIVER more than satisfied the filmmaker’s legion of diehard fans recently at SXSW, anxious to see the latest from the SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ director. WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES has film critics onboard in a big way for Matt Reeves’s most recent entry in the highly successful re-working of the legendary franchise. SPIDER MAN – HOMECOMING is highlighted by Marvel’s effort to reclaim the big screen magic of one of its most popular characters with a major assist from Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. DESPICABLE ME 3 rounds out the lineup with the third film in the animated franchise, which has already delighted its minions around the world.
The Summer Movie Madness Marathon mimics fundraising walks, runs, and bike rides, with the participants asked to acquire pledges from friends, family, co-workers, etc. to donate funds based on whether or not they watch all four films that day. There will also be prizes for the film fans given away at each screening and for the most money raised for the organization, as well as special appearances to introduce each of the films.
