CRM Studios Works Its Short Game in :30 Spot TV for Club Champion | Features Jordan Spieth
CRM Studios Posted On January 18, 2021

Club Champion already had their talent selected before our CRM Studios team came aboard, so we had to work quickly. PGA Tour pro and 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth, and his swing coach Cameron McCormick, had very busy schedules (as celebrity athletes often do).

While our writers submitted several scenario suggestions, each of them required at least two locations: the golf course and inside of Club Champion.

TV production lighting requirements for indoor and outdoor locations vary dramatically, so it made sense to shoot each location on separate days. That setup would have required an extended commitment from the talent — not to mention potential disruption of services for our accommodating hosts, Club Champion and Gleneagles Country Club. Concerns about COVID-19 exposure from additional talent presented yet another obstacle.

The solution was fairly straightforward, as any golfer would prefer. We would shoot two early mornings on the golf course and one long session inside Club Champion.

Day one was a short but unorthodox session.

Our additional talent and “stunt clubs” arrived before dawn so we could start shooting immediately upon sunrise. The concept we settled on involved frustrated golfers destroying their equipment and throwing it hither and yon — but safety still had to be considered. Our props team prepared clubs so that they would break easily and predictably. Then they donned waders to fetch bags and clubs that had been thrown into the water hazard. Our gaffer and crew then proceeded to Club Champion to preset as much indoor lighting and equipment as possible in preparation for the next day.

Day two was longer and more tightly scheduled.

Once more, talent and crew arrived in the wee hours of the morning to prepare for a very tight window between sunrise and actual golfers arriving at the 18th hole. A small armada of golf carts was deployed to transport equipment, our crew, and the star talent once their makeup and wardrobe were complete. While no audio was captured on the first day, both Jordan Spieth and Cameron McCormick had lines to say on the course. The weather thankfully cooperated in terms of sunlight and wind, so we were able to accomplish the trickiest parts of the shoot with unanticipated ease.

Still, the schedule was tight.

In order to get as much mileage as possible from our footage, we needed Jordan to record some additional dialogue once we were set up at Club Champion. The country club was only about a mile away, which allowed us to have our preset equipment up-and-running before talent arrived. Mr. Spieth was extremely patient and professional as we had him read many different lines, many different times, for many different locations. As soon as the teleprompter and audio were struck, all non-essential crew moved outdoors to give us the room we needed for an equipment demonstration and to avoid unnecessary exposure to each other.

Overall, it was a safe, productive and efficient 2-day shoot, and most importantly, our clients were pleased with the results.

If you need to fix your swing, you should call Club Champion; but if you need a safe and professional TV commercial production, you should call CRM Studios.

CRM Studios and GameStop TV Cover E3, AGAIN!
CRM Studios Posted On July 6, 2017

By Evan Morris

Summer is in the air once again along with all that goes with it: long days, deep nights, and the explosion of video games, hardware, and gaming enthusiasts that is E3

The annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, or “E3” as it is more commonly known, kicked off June 13th; and once again, CRM Studios was there with GameStop TV to cover E3.  Billed as “the biggest event for video games, tech, and entertainment” and organized by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), E3 ran for three days in downtown Los Angeles. Over the course of those days, 93 exhibitors demonstrated upwards of 2,000 products to 68,400 attendees.

GameStop TV conducted an interview in a ball pit while covering E3

As in previous years, CRM Studios was there to cover E3 press conferences from the leaders in the video game industry for client GameStop. This year we sent two crews of two — plus on-camera hosts (Erik Conway and Kristin Adams) and two editors “less than a mile away from the convention center, furiously churning out content at a fevered, yet uncompromising pace” — to cover pressers for industry giants Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, and (remotely) Nintendo and more. News from the event spread quickly and trended heavily on social media, generating an estimated 15 million related posts.

Interviews In Fun Places

“I thought the new story mode version of Madden was a pretty interesting addition,” said Director of Production, Scott Burress, describing some of the highlights. “It’s called ‘Longshot,’ and features the journey of a talented high school athlete to the NFL. Perhaps my favorite moment was when we did the Nyko interview about the different accessories they have available at GameStop.  This interview focused on their Nintendo Switch offerings, but what made it memorable was the fact that the interview was conducted in a ball pit. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the experience.”

Favorite Moments

Everyone who went had their own favorite moments.  Even the off-site editors enjoyed significantly improved bandwidth over previous years. It might not seem like much, but fast upload and download speeds make it much more convenient to post content to social channels and the home office in Dallas. In an environment where being first is almost as important as being accurate, preplanning for the right accommodations is key. Some of the most popular announcements to come out of this year’s event included: plenty of titles and release date announcements for VR games, as well as games for the ultra-popular Nintendo Switch; features and price point ($499) for the new Xbox One X, billed as the most powerful gaming system ever; and of course, the new Call of Duty Multiplayer mode.

In the end, the crew had a busy week and captured plenty of footage for our client to use.

That’s a Wrap

“Overall,” says Production Manager, Allison Unger summing up, “we created over 40 segments for social platforms and in-store TV network GameStopTV,” Not bad for a week’s “work.” So, that’s all from E3 this year.

The Human Connection between Customer and Product Just Works! CRM’s Tom Kirkhart Shows Why
CRM Studios Posted On June 7, 2017

Testimonials Just Keep Working!

by Tom Kirkhart

Today, we produce more testimonial videos than we have in years. Why? Testimonials just keep working.

Maybe it’s the “show me,” or “prove it” attitudes coming from social media, or a simple case of seeing is believing, but testimonials continue to shine.

In their Video Marketing Strategy survey, Ascend2 reported that customer testimonials top the list of most effective corporate videos:

-Customer Testimonials (51%)
-Explainer/Tutorial (50%)
-Demonstration (49%)
Ascend2 and research partners, Video Marketing Strategy survey,
Published September 2015

This is something we’ve seen growing in importance for quite some time. Expectations online for quality have grown right alongside testimonials. Gone is the day when you could shoot a quickie video on your phone or HD home video gear and post it for great results. The quality of the video is now closely associated with the quality of the testimonial.

TRUST, CREDIBILITY, PERSUASION AND STORIES

The Video Marketing Strategy survey shows that a dynamic shift has occurred in corporate sales and marketing videos. It’s a move from telling your own story with paid actors to having an expert, customer or even employee tell it.

Peer believability stands at the core of social media’s rapid rise to success and is spilling out into all areas of business. So it’s natural that we would see increased impact in someone else telling your story rather than a paid spokesperson. Real people are less polished, less perfect and more genuine and believable.

In an article by Laura Lorenz of LeadingResults.com, she said:
• Testimonials build Trust
• Testimonials aren’t Salesy
• Testimonials overcome Skepticism

Tyler Technologies “Is With You”

An article on Wirebuzz.com, “3 Reasons Why Testimonials Are So Powerful” says it another way.

• Build Trust & Credibility with Social Proof
Testimonials allow your satisfied customers to step forward and address the questions and objections that fill the minds of the prospective buyer for you. Then their anxious minds are put at ease, knowing that other customers have been happy and satisfied doing business with you.

• Persuade the Mind with Emotion
There are neurological studies which all confirm that people rely on emotions — not logic — to make decisions.

Brands that connect with their prospects on an emotional level are better positioned to persuade them to buy.

• Nothing Captures Attention Like a Good Story
At the heart of testimonials are stories: characters (your buyers) who had a problem or an unfulfilled desire (conflict) and found the solution in your business (resolution). That’s why testimonials, when done well, use stories to draw your prospects in and connect with them emotionally.

As we trust and believe in those people most like us, the testimonial will continue to grow in importance. Testimonials just keep working.

Look around your organization and ask, “What stories do we have to tell and who best to tell them?”

Then call CRM Studios and let us help.

CRM Studios Win Tellys for Nokia and ReVision Optics
CRM Studios Posted On August 19, 2016

This year CRM Studios had two projects up for consideration for Telly Awards, and both were winners.  Each spot grabbed a bronze Telly for its respective category, a nice tip of the cap.  The fact that both nominated spots received recognition was especially rewarding.  “Our mission is to be one of the premier creators, producers, and providers of media content, technology and innovative production solutions,” says Co-owner and CEO Steve Dunning, who directed both videos. “To be recognized with a Telly is a nice confirmation that we are living up to that mission while serving our clients’ specific needs.”

The first spot was an effects-heavy marketing video for Nokia titled “Ultra Dense Networks.” It was shot on an intimate sound stage painted entirely in Chroma key, or “green screen”, in which a host interacted with three dimensional maps and monitors to demonstrate exactly how the product determines the best possible locations for wireless hubs and routers. CRM Studios Senior Animator Gerald Rice was undaunted by the technical requirements of the spot. “All the tech stuff was a breeze because of Harry Bouton, of Nextwave Creative being such a great client to work with,” he said, adding, “Gotta love that camera tracker in After Effects with Element3D from Video Copilot.”  He assures us that fellow animators and editors will know exactly what he means.

The next project was an online video promoting an experimental new corneal inlay procedure from ReVision Optics designed to help cataract patients who have presbyopia, informally titled “Meet Bob.” Bob is our hero, an older gentleman who was recently encouraged by successful cataract surgery to take up art classes.  He discovers his near vision is still not where he’d like it to be and begins exploring options to treat his presbyopia.  The video required CRM Studios to transform a rustic, old Dallas factory into an art studio and back again, all in a single day. “Thankfully the weather held up,” said Ethan Norris, set decorator and props master for this shoot, “moving all those paints and paintings in a downpour would have been …challenging.  Also, a BIG shout out to the Haltom High School Fine Arts program for all their help and advice.”

He continued, “The trickiest part for me was the still-life arrangement that everyone in the class was working on. It had to be interesting and colorful from every angle, but not too challenging since we needed to make several canvasses, in various stages of completion, demonstrating a range of skill levels. And of course, we had to be able to transport it and set it back up exactly the way it was.  The good news is it worked, and I really think it helped tie the whole set together visually.”

The Telly Awards have spent the past 37 years honoring film and video projects.  Over the years, their purpose has evolved from honoring the best of local, regional, and cable TV commercials to its current status as “the premier award honoring the finest film and video productions, groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films, and outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs.”  CRM Studios appreciates the recognition of this prestigious institution– even if it means we’re going to need a bigger mantle.

CRM Crafts “You Go, Bob! for Revision Optics
CRM Studios Posted On November 17, 2015

A View Into The Future

November 10, 2015

Las Colinas, TX:

Revision Optics, the innovative eye care optics company based in Lake Forest , California, called in CRM Studios, Las Colinas, to create a new two and a half minute Internet marketing commercial for the new RAINDROP Near Vision Inlay.

Looking to introduce this new product to both the patients, as well as the eye care community, the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is a small lens inserted in front of the cornea for cataract patients who have some difficulties seeing near distances after their cataract surgeries. This lens solves that problem known as presbyopia.

“You Go, Bob!” features Bob, a new cataract patient, who is celebrating his new found vision and exciting vibrant colors by taking up a new hobby–painting. When Bob attempts to use his new vision, he finds the distances don’t allow for him to see objects that are near to him. He’s lucky enough to hear about the new Raindrop just in time to show his class his new artwork at the end of the semester, which is…not as good as his new, improved vision. But Bob’s still happy because he can now have a new life with the Rainbow Near Vision Inlay from Revision Optics.

Shot on CRM’s RedCam, directed by CRM’s lead director, Steve Dunning, who not only shot the long form spot, but rough cut it as well in Premier, finished out by CRM’s Senior Editor, Brian Hockenbury. Tom Kirkhart produced.

CRM Studios is one of the largest production / post-production broadcast companies in the Southwest. Contact Tom Kirkhart for more information.
