Republic Elevates Executive Producer Hwang to Partner in Republic Productions Studio
Republic Posted On January 10, 2023

Republic  announces the addition of Brian Hwang as an equity partner in their production division, Republic Productions. Hwang will continue his role as Executive Producer, and utilize his new position as partner to streamline decision-making as he leads the growth of the studio’s director roster, technical offerings and client base.

“Four years ago, we brought Brian on with the precise directive of building a production department from the ground up. That is exactly what he has done and we couldn’t be more impressed by his success in such a short period of time,” says Chris Gipson, founding partner of Republic Productions (2019), and its parent company, Republic (2013), alongside founding partners Carrie Callaway and Keith James. “Brian’s addition as an equity partner to the production arm is well deserved and an obvious next step. We know he will continue to work hard and strive to exceed our expectations.”

A seasoned veteran, Hwang combines a deep understanding of all aspects of the production pipeline and the ability to build strong relationships between clients, agencies and directors – a creative collaborator who levels up all of his department’s projects. He brings over two decades of production, post-production and agency experience to his new ownership role, having spent ten of those years at global advertising powerhouse McCann New York. After moving to Texas in 2016 and growing roots in the Dallas ad community, Brian was added to the team in early 2019, to help Republic launch their production arm under the name Threaded Pictures (the division was later consolidated under the Republic banner in January of last year as Republic Productions.)

“I couldn’t be more proud of the production shop that the Republic partners and I have developed in just four short years,“ explains Hwang. “I credit their support and leadership for allowing me to execute our shared vision of a diverse and talented roster of directors capable of working on projects of all shapes and sizes, both in the US and internationally.” Republic Production’s roster consists of directors Josh Blaylock, TG Herrington, April Kirby, Amos David McKay, Chad Ostrom, Ben Tedesco and Taylor Washington. Of his new elevated role, Hwang adds, “I’m driven now more than ever to work on our next phase to take Republic Productions to another level.”

In addition to his current role as partner and Executive Producer, Hwang also serves as President of AICP Southwest and the Southwest Regional Director for the AICP National board, titles which he has held since late 2018 and keep him current with industry issues and challenges. During the pandemic lockdown and subsequent easing of restrictions, Hwang’s coordination with state and local governments helped the area’s commercial production move forward and rebound quickly. Recently, he chaired the first in-person AICP Awards Tour Dallas Show in three years at the Perot Museum last November, and continues to use his leadership position to strengthen the production industry in the Southwest region.

A Brief Chat with Republic Productions Executive Producer Brian Hwang
Republic Posted On November 8, 2022

Get to know Republic Productions Executive Producer and AICP Southwest President Brian Hwang

We’ve been lucky to have a skilled industry veteran by the name of Brian Hwang as the head of our production studios since he joined our team in 2018. When not out on a shoot, prepping for a shoot or building reels for a potential shoot, he also serves as President of the Southwest Chapter of AICP. We thought it would be great to take a few moments to learn a little bit more about his background, his responsibilities as an EP and with AICP, and his passions in and outside of the industry.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us. Tell us a little bit about how you got started in the industry?

My oldest sister was working at McCann NY while I was in college. She was able to get me an internship in the Account Management department during the summer between my junior and senior year. I really enjoyed the fast-pace, creativity and fun that the advertising workplace offered. I kept in touch with the HR folks from there and in the spring of the following year I interviewed for a position and had a job offer before graduation. I started as an Assistant Account Executive, and while I enjoyed learning about all the various disciplines within advertising, I really gravitated towards production. I made the jump to an Assistant Producer in the Broadcast department and never looked back.

How did a classical New Yorker like you end up down in Dallas?

Classic love story. Boy meets girl. Boy marries girl. Boy follows girl to where she grew up. But in all seriousness, moving to the Dallas market was a great opportunity. While advertising in Dallas might not be on the exact same scale as New York or L.A., the amount of companies here or moving into the area is staggering… Toyota, Keurig Dr. Pepper, Frito-Lay, JCPenney, the list goes on and on. And with the speed in which certain productions need to happen, being in their backyard certainly helps.

What brought you to Republic?

I met with the partners back in 2018. Chris, Carrie and Keith had a strong interest in launching a live action division in order to provide turnkey services to their current and prospective client base. From our discussions, it was clear that we had a similar vision on the type of production company we wanted to create here in Dallas. They also made it clear that it was an opportunity for me to build something from the ground floor, and help shape it from the jump, so that was really attractive to me. We’re in our fourth year now, and have a stellar group of directors on roster. Really excited and proud about what we’ve done up to this point. I feel like we’ve very much established ourselves as a strong production option in town, and are looking to continue the growth trend for next year and beyond.

Tell us a little bit about what you do on a daily basis as an EP.

As an Executive Producer, I’m responsible for the oversight of all the operations of the live action division. Each day presents a different set of challenges and perhaps that’s one of the things I like most about what I do. Whether it’s breaking down a script to start budgeting, working through challenges of a complex production, or meeting with clients to strengthen relationships, no two days are the same.

Explain to us a little bit about AICP and what your responsibilities are as President of the Southwest Chapter.

AICP stands for Association of Independent Commercial Producers. We’re a trade organization that represents the best interests of independent companies that specialize in production and post-production for TV and digital commercials. The organization sets the benchmark for best practices and protocols in advertising production. As the President of the Southwest chapter, I serve as the main liaison and representative for our regional member companies to the AICP National Board of Directors. I filter information down to our members, while also voicing any issues occurring in our region that affects commercial production on a national level.

At a local level, I spearhead several events and programs throughout the year to help strengthen our advertising community in this region. The highlight of the events is the AICP Awards Show that screens in 6 cities throughout the country, and Dallas is one of the stops. It’s always an incredible evening getting the industry together to celebrate great work and have some fun outside the office. In fact, our event is coming up in early November. We’re hosting it at the Perot Museum and it’ll be the first time having the event since the pandemic – should be a great turnout!

It sounds like a lot to take on. I imagine having those responsibilities during the pandemic had to be extremely challenging.

As with many industries during the pandemic, things were changing so rapidly. Fortunately, AICP became an invaluable resource to its members by providing up-to-date information for safety and other protocols pertaining to COVID-19. AICP National held weekly zoom meetings covering a variety of topics that really helped its members navigate the impacts the pandemic had on our businesses.

When you’re not living and breathing production, how else do you fill your time?

I’m pretty easy to find.. I’m either watching one of my 2 sons play sports, in the kitchen working on my Michelin star, or on the golf course working on my swing.

Republic Strengthens Design Studio with Addition of Directors Jones and Wilson
Republic Posted On August 25, 2022

Republic announces the signing of seasoned Creative Directors Jesse James Jones, Jr. and Ryan Wilson to their Republic Design studio roster. The two native Texan industry veterans each bring with them their own unique creative approach, further rounding out the diverse creative capabilities of Republic’s thriving Design division.

Known for his sleek ultramodern look, Jones began his career in Dallas before heading out to join the West Coast film industry. After 7 years at Prologue Films working under Kyle Cooper, he moved to Germany where as a Creative Supervisor he worked on multiple award- winning international automotive projects for Munich based KMS Blackspace. He returned stateside during the pandemic, and has recently collaborated with Imaginary Forces on several main titles, commercials, and rebranding for two major streaming services.

“I can’t tell you how excited my team and I are to add a designer with Jesse’s wide breadth of experience and distinct style to our roster,” says Republic Design’s Executive Producer Amy Aitken. “From film to commercials, from VR to AR, from environmental to music videos, he’s done it all, always with his signature visionary slant. With all the amazing imagery he’s created for such prestigious brands as AMC, Apple, Audi, Bavaria Films, BMW, Ford, Google, HBO, Mercedes, Netflix, Paramount Pictures, Traton, Volkswagen, and EA Sports, I have no doubt that our clients will be excited to work with him.”

An interdisciplinary artist, Wilson began his career in the industry at Fox Sports, where he rose rapidly and found himself running a finishing room at the young age of 24. In 2004, he joined creative powerhouse Turner Studios in Atlanta, who he credits for his organization, attention to detail and ability to ‘play well with others’. Returning to Texas in 2013, Wilson led Dallas based Post Asylum’s Design department before opening up his own firm shortly thereafter. After multiple projects, one of which resulted in him receiving the ultimate compliment from Will.i.am (that his work was ‘super dope’), Wilson recently teamed up with Republic on work for clients such as Samsung, Capital One, Lennox and Goya.

“Ryan is an extremely well rounded artist who is able to view his work not only from a creative perspective, but also from a managerial workflow angle,“ says Aitken. “His background in working for both large and small houses, running his own shop, and working as a freelancer, gives him the ability to approach the structure and organization of a project from multiple viewpoints. Our full team of motion graphics artists and designers has worked with him frequently in the past as a freelancer – he’s always felt like one of the crew while consistently over delivering. I’m really looking forward to taking our relationship and our work to the next level.”

“Both these additions instantly elevate our entire Design studio and the overall scope of what our firm can offer,“ says Republic partner Keith James. “Across production and post, our clients want strong creative artists with bold approaches to help enhance their artistic visions, and the signing of these two Creative Directors fully complements the high-caliber talent we have on our Directorial and Editorial rosters. Top down, our whole team is really excited about these guys – I can’t wait to see the amazing work we’re able to do together.”

‘Republic Editorial’ Brings Sister Companies Under the ‘Republic’ Banner
Republic Posted On February 28, 2022

Republic Editorial announces the consolidation of its sister companies – production arm Threaded Pictures and animation / design arm Infinite Fiction -under the banner of Republic (http://theRepublic.co). The move rebrands the studios as Republic Productions and Republic Design, and fully integrates them with Republic Editorial for a robust and unified turn-key Republic solution for advertisers and marketers.

Republic and its studios maintain their space in Uptown Dallas – including traditional production offices and post-production suites – while also offering virtual capabilities to work anywhere in the world through the latest remote production and post technology.

“Combining our three sister companies’ superpowers into one brand levels up multiple aspects of our work,” says Keith James, Republic Partner and Senior Editor. “In addition to gains in both external and internal operational efficiencies, a consolidated framework gives us a simplified message to share with prospective new clients as we continue to expand into new markets. As a brand built on two things – creativity and collaboration – moves like this amplify everything we do”.

From a leadership standpoint, Republic Productions will continue to be led by current AICP Southwest President Brian Hwang, who helmed Threaded Pictures as its EP since their founding in 2019. Industry veteran Amy Aitken will move from her role as Infinite Fiction’s EP to the same position at Republic Design. Company co-founder and Partner Carrie Callaway will continue her role as Managing Director for Republic Editorial.  “It is such a benefit to have leaders like Brian and Amy teaming up with us to push the expansion of both our overall brand and their individual studios” says Callaway. “Their experience helps us maintain the premium quality service we are known for all the way from a project’s kick-off up to its final delivery.”

“I am really stoked about the doors that this consolidation opens up for the studios and our roster,“ says Hwang.  “Since coming over to launch Republic’s live action division, I’ve seen first-hand what efforts our ownership has made to diversify both our company’s capabilities and our clientele while also adapting to the evolving needs of our market. Looking at the industry and the complicated content demands of today, I have no doubt that Republic and its multi-faceted approach gives agencies the efficient creative partner they’re looking for right now.”

The development of the new look for Republic was spearheaded by Cody Clack, Republic Design’s lead Creative Director. “Having Cody and the resources at our disposal to tackle a well thought out and thorough rebranding like this shows exactly how deep our capabilities are as a design house,” says Aitken. “Although we’re mainly known for our design, animation and visual effect work, all of our artists are driven to push creative boundaries. I think the work we’ve done for this launch proudly captures all of that.”

Republic Editorial Edits New Clorox Product Ad Campaign Starring Danny Trejo
Republic Posted On August 9, 2021

During the pandemic, what brands can you name that had more demand than Clorox and other disinfecting products? Probably none. But despite the company making around a million canisters of disinfecting wipes each day, it was still a challenge to keep store shelves stocked. Recently, as many small businesses around the US began reopening to the public, the brand debuted its new product, The Clorox Turbo Power Sprayer, featuring actor and restauranteur Danny Trejo in its campaign. The sprayer uses an electric motor to disinfect a space quickly and easily, and is designed to address the cleaning needs of small businesses of all kinds, from beauty and nail salons, to gyms and restaurants.

The spot edited by Chris Gipson of Republic Editorial shows Trejo, owner of Trejo’s Tacos and Trejo’s Cantina, describing his fondness for “everything turbo” from turbo phone charging and coffee drinking to turbo disinfecting with The Clorox Turbo Power Sprayer. “Get it now, or I’ll come looking for you,” he says as the commercial ends.

“Reach Agency had a great idea using Trejo for this campaign” says Gipson,  “Director Raul Fernandez and the team at Twenty Nine Black did a solid job executing on the boards, and Danny definitely brought the spots to life with his trademark energy. His voice, the opportunities for sound design and the dynamic camera moves made it really fun to edit.”

The campaign is set to appear on various social media.

Republic Editorial Bolsters Offerings with Additions of Flame Artist/Colorist, Bryan Bayley, and Creative Editor, Shaddai Berron
Republic Posted On July 19, 2021

Republic Editorial  announces the addition of seasoned Flame Artist / Colorist Bryan Bayley and Creative Editor Shaddai Berron. The two joined the team in early summer and have already collaborated on several projects, including a recent campaign for Dolce & Gabbana featuring DJ Khalid and PJ Tucker.

A skilled technical and creative artist, Bayley brings his years of experience working on high-profile brands such as Home Depot, Ram Trucks, Coors and Toyota to Republic. He was most recently the lead Flame Artist at across town shop Treehouse Editorial, a shop which he was instrumental in launching back in 2012. Prior to that, Bayley helped Dallas based Reel FX / Radium grow their commercial divisions, in addition to working on music videos, feature films, special attractions and branching into AR/VR. In 2011, he worked on Katy Perry’s “Firework” which won the MTV Video Music Award for video of the year.

“Bryan is the ideal artist to add to our expanding Finishing team right now,” explains Republic Partner and Senior Editor, Chris Gipson. “Not only does he have the experience and talent to run any project solo, but he also thrives in a collaborative environment, working well with the other artists on our team.“ Bayley joins Republic’s other Flame Artist & Colorist, Nick Mueth, in heading up their Finishing department.

“I’d only heard great things about Republic since it’s partners bought out Red Car back in 2013,“ says Bayley. “Their continued growth in recent years with the addition of sister company Infinite Fiction for design and Threaded Pictures  for production made a big impact in this town. When I heard about their plans for further expanding their Finishing division, I knew I had an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

A native of Dallas, Berron also joins Republic from Treehouse Editorial, where she recently worked her way up from Assistant to Editor in only a few short years. With a fluency in English and Spanish, she’s cultivated a diverse reel of national work for clients ranging from Dr. Pepper to Kia to Home Depot. Whether cutting long format docu-style projects or short-form heavy effects work, ‘Shady’ (as she’s known in town) uses her down to earth personality to create a comfortable collaborative space for creatives to craft their message.

“I’ve been following Shady’s trajectory for a good while now,” says Republic Partner and Senior Editor, Keith James. “In the few short years she’s been editing, she’s proved herself capable of tackling a wide variety of creative projects each with a very distinctive approach. And it goes without saying that with a fluency in Spanish, she’s going to continue to flourish in our market.”

Berron joins Republic’s roster of Editors which includes William Franklin, Chris Gipson, Keith James, Andy McGee and Susan Munro. “Republic has such a strong core of creative talent – it’s just awesome to be considered part of the team,“ Berron explains. “The partners have been super supportive of my vision for growth as an editor, and their addition of Bryan made the transition really smooth for myself and my clients. I feel like I’ve got a home here for years to come.”

Threaded Pictures Announces the Signing of Tabletop Director Josh Blaylock
Republic Posted On June 28, 2021

Threaded Pictures announces the signing of Director Josh Blaylock to its roster and will represent him in the U.S. for commercial and branded content motion work.

With a keen eye for composition and lighting, Blaylock is known for collaborating with his clients to bring fresh and innovative perspectives to food and other tabletop work. His reputation as an intuitive and creative problem solver who provides a relaxed atmosphere on set has landed him work with such high profile clients as Pizza Hut, Frito Lay, Grey Goose, Dr. Pepper and Shiner Beer. He joins Threaded Pictures’ growing roster of directors as its cornerstone for all things food and beverage related.

“I’ve been tracking Josh’s career since I came to Dallas,” says Brian Hwang, Executive Producer of Threaded Pictures. “His photography is top notch, and his transition into directing motion work has been seamless. In the short time we’ve been working together, he’s shown a constant hunger to experiment and be creative. That eagerness to get in the studio to test and develop new techniques, even before a project begins, will be a tremendous draw for our clients.”

Recently Blaylock collaborated with Threaded Pictures and sister companies Republic Editorial and Infinite Fiction on projects for Estrella Jalisco, Cinemark, Rold Gold and Chuck E. Cheese. A true foodie at heart, he believes food always has a story to tell, and his lens is his tool to share it. With the benefit of a motion control rig housed at his studio, he spends the majority of his freetime tweaking and perfecting his craft.

A native of Texas, Blaylock’s relationship with cameras began as a teenager out on the west coast in Hollywood where he spent over eight years in front of the camera, landing roles ranging from prime time series to the Academy Award winning film No Country For Old Men. Eager to learn the ins and outs of the industry, he used his down time on set to immerse himself in the various crew departments. He credits that background and the exposure he gained from working with a wide variety of directors for allowing him to smoothly transition from a stills shooter into a tabletop director.

“My number one take away from my experience growing up on set,” explains Blaylock, “was that while a director will always face numerous challenges and unexpected obstacles, maintaining a positive attitude and working with your clients and crew to creatively problem solve is key. In the work we’ve done in recent months, Brian and the team at Threaded have provided the collaborative environment for doing just that. I have no doubt we’re gonna do some killer work together.”

“I’m so excited about adding Josh to our team of directors,” says Threaded Pictures partner Carrie Callaway. “His youthful energy and enthusiasm is contagious, plus the specifics of his skillset perfectly complement the joint talent pool across our sister companies. I can’t wait to see what amazing work our clients and our team produce in the coming months.”

Blaylock joins Threaded Pictures roster of directors that includes TG Herrington, April Kirby, Chad Ostrom, Ben Tedesco, Two Headed Boy and Taylor Washington.

“This addition to our team is coming at the perfect time for Josh, the perfect time for our company, and the perfect time for our market,” says Hwang. “I look forward to introducing him to our clients and continuing to further invest in the growth of our creative capabilities.”

Threaded Pictures Helps Frito-Lay Rick Roll into the New Year with “Snack a Little Smarter” Campaign
Republic Posted On January 11, 2021

Threaded Pictures helped Frito-Lay Rick Roll into the New Year with the one and only Rick Astley in their latest “Snack a Little Smarter” campaign from The Marketing Arm.

The main spot, which pairs Astley’s 80’s hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” with a woman’s healthy New Year’s resolutions, was shot in mid-December by Threaded’s Chad Ostrom and swiftly turned around by sister company Republic Editorial in time for the holidays.

“This was a fun one to finish out the year with,” says Ostrom, who joined Threaded in early fall. “Rick came ready to play, and showed why he was the perfect guy for Frito-Lay’s New Year’s message. The agency brought us a killer script and tasked us to make it a reality. With the complexities of shooting in two countries and a storyline that had to be told quickly, it was great to have an agency partner who trusted us from jump street in order to execute the creative plan.”

“Sometimes you find yourself working on an idea that’s just as silly as the amount of time you have to produce it,” says Mason Viera, Creative Director of the Marketing Arm who spearheaded the project. “Chad, the crew at Threaded and the team at Republic knew almost immediately how we needed to shoot this spot to bring all of the cuts to life in time. Everybody being aligned and on the same page is almost an understatement – everyone just got it.”

The spot was shot over three days – the first two on location in Dallas, and the third with Astley in London, with Ostrom running point virtually for his crew overseas. “It was extremely important for me to make this feel like Rick was there in the room with our hero mom character. Working with Republic’s finishing team and our DP in London, we were meticulous about taking the technical measures to set us up for successfully marrying Rick’s performance with the background plates shot in the US,” Ostrom adds.

“From a story standpoint, it was a lot to pack into a 30 second spot,” states Keith James, Republic and Threaded partner who also cut the spot. “Getting involved with Chad early on – something we always do with turnkey work – really helped knock out the complexities of the cut at full tilt on the back end.”

The turnaround for post was so quick that AdWeek was already teasing the finished project even while dailies were still being downloaded back in Dallas.

“Chad has been an incredible add to our Threaded roster,” notes Brian Hwang, EP at Threaded. “Beyond his strong directing experience across many genres, he has the intangible traits that make him a pleasure to work with – he’s collaborative, has a calming demeanor, respects the entire team who helps make the work possible, and is able to adapt quickly.”

Threaded Pictures Announces the Signing of Director Chad Ostrom to Its Roster | Brings Bi-Coastal Experience to Texas
Republic Posted On July 19, 2020

Known for his visual storytelling and lifestyle work, Ostrom’s ability to weave beautiful imagery and effectively communicate a brand’s message makes him a valuable new addition to the Threaded team. Ostrom has fostered relationships with agencies big and small to help create high-profile campaigns for Mercedes Benz, Tom Ford, Bristol Myers Squibb, GE and Spotify. Ostrom’s signing coincides with his recent move to Dallas and brings his strong bi-coastal experience to the Texas market.

“Chad and I hit it off right away,” says Brian Hwang, Executive Producer of Threaded Pictures. “Besides our connection to New York City, we also share an entrepreneurial spirit to meet new people, work with new brands and help tell their stories. His versatility across categories is super impressive, and he brings a sophistication and edge to his films that is aspirational yet relatable.”

A Manhattan, Kansas native, Ostrom’s passion for film led him from a BA in Film at the University of Kansas to a short stint out west at ICM and ultimately back across country to a much larger version of Manhattan on the east coast. Through bartending by night and PA’ing by day, he quickly worked his way up to assisting the legendary Douglas Keeve. This early industrial and branded content work on GQ, Vogue and other fashion brands taught him the importance of lighting, attention to detail, and other critical cinema etiquette that he carries with him into every project he tackles today.

Ostrom’s experience extends beyond the directing chair, having launched his own production company while in NYC.  Pairing his well-rounded understanding of the business with his innate sense of creativity, he developed strong working relationships with agencies such as Publicis, VMLY&R, R/GA, Laird + Partners, The Richards Group and Saatchi & Saatchi.

“I like to build companies and be a part of something – joining Threaded Pictures with our move to Dallas gives me a strong foundation to build upon,” says Ostrom.  “Having a fellow NYC transplant in Brian at the helm who’s smart yet easy to talk to goes a long way, and it’s amazing to have strong post-partners like Republic Editorial and Infinite Fiction, so I can focus my energy on the actual production and rely on those guys to take it past the finish line.”

“We’re tremendously excited about partnering with Chad,” says Threaded Pictures partner Keith James. “It’s not often that you find someone who likes to get their hands dirty, who once dug ditches, but also happens to have killer chops for shooting extremely gorgeous and engaging visual narratives. He’s a guy that goes all in on his work, and does so with a legit sense of joy.”

Ostrom joins Threaded Pictures roster of directors that includes TG Herrington, April Kirby, Ben Tedesco, Two Headed Boy and Taylor Washington. “Chad is a tremendous addition to the team,” says Hwang. “His positive energy is infectious and I’m excited to share his talents with our agency partners.”

Threaded Pictures Bolsters Roster with Addition of Director TG Herrington
Republic Posted On August 19, 2019

Dallas Production Company Brings On Feature Director for Commercial and Branded Content Work

Threaded Pictures  announces the signing of director TG Herrington representing him for commercial and branded content work in the State of Texas. Herrington joins Threaded Pictures growing roster of directors that includes Ben Tedesco, Two Headed Boy and Taylor Washington.

A multi-faceted filmmaker with a diverse body of work, Herrington is known for his ability to create extraordinary stories and performances from even the most ordinary of people. His feature documentary, A Tuba to Cuba, premiered at SXSW last year, and captures the deep roots musicians in his hometown of New Orleans share with musicians across the Gulf in Cuba. He recently finished concepting, shooting and directing Paul McCartney’s latest track Come On To Me, and currently has several projects in development, including an animated series, a feature screenplay and a historical episodic.

“I’m stoked to be working with TG again,“ says Threaded Pictures Executive Producer Brian Hwang. “We’ve always had such a great working relationship, and I’m so excited to introduce his talents to our clients in Texas. Not only does he have a strong background in producing and writing both long and short format work, he also is an exceptionally talented editor – something that both boosts his skills as a director and gives him the ability to cut his own footage. Plus, TG is fluent in Spanish, which further opens up his options. I couldn’t be happier about bringing him on board.”

Born in New Orleans, Herrington spent his formative years at boarding school in Argentina, which he credits as giving him a strong worldly perspective. He began his career at Red Car in Hollywood editing commercials and music videos for such noted directors as David Fincher, Michael Bay and Michel Gondry. His post-production experience parlayed a move into the director’s chair filming commercials for Nike, Budweiser, Toyota and other global brands. In 2011, at the urging of director and frequent collaborator Simon West, TG signed on to edit the action film The Mechanic. The experience of having worked in the feature film arena led TG to his first foray into directing narrative via the award winning film Mr. Okra, which became an official selection at both Sundance and Cannes.

“TG’s strong appreciation for history and his rich southern roots is what allows him to be able to tell stories with such heart, humor and wit,” explains Hwang. “A Tuba to Cuba for me captures all these attributes in both its story and structure. I’m really looking forward to taking advantage of all he’s learned on the long format side to tackle our client’s shorter format work.”

“Today, as directors, we’re being asked to do projects of all scopes for various distribution channels,” says Herrington. “Working with Brian and the team from Threaded Pictures is a great opportunity to add more to my mix. I look forward to getting into that nice rhythm where the ad world and my other projects can constantly be feeding each other.”
